Youth Ambassadors make their way to NYC!
On Saturday, April 5th, nearly two dozen Broadway Utica Youth Ambassadors took a memorable trip to New York City—a day they won’t soon forget. For many of these high school juniors and seniors, it was their first time in the Big Apple, and for some, their first time seeing a Broadway show.
Thanks to the incredible support from our community—who purchased raffle tickets filled with prizes donated by generous local businesses—this experience became a reality. The trip, sponsored in part by Bank of Utica, was a well-earned celebration of the students’ hard work and commitment to the Youth Ambassador Program (YAP), now in its 14th year under the leadership of Kristen Matteson.
YAP is more than just a chance to see shows—it’s a year-long journey into the heart of theater. Students receive season subscriptions, participate in talkbacks with cast members, and connect with local leaders in the community. The NYC trip brought all of this full circle, giving students a glimpse of Broadway beyond The Stanley.
Traveling by coach bus, the group soaked in the sights, shared lunch, and spent the day exploring together. The highlight? Seeing Death Becomes Her live on Broadway.
This unforgettable day wouldn’t have been possible without the community’s generosity. Because of you, these students walked away with more than memories—they left inspired, energized, and more connected to the magic of theater than ever before.
