BROADWAY UTICA PARTNERS WITH GLIMMERGLASS FESTIVAL

Broadway Theatre League of Utica, Inc. is excited to announce their partnership with The Glimmerglass Festival held annually July 7th – August 20th. Students in Broadway Utica’s Bernadette A. Eichler Youth Ambassador program will attend two performances at the 2023 Glimmerglass Festival. “This is an incredible opportunity for our area youth,” says Kristen Matteson, Community Engagement Coordinator, of Broadway Theatre League of Utica. “To be able to introduce area children to the art of opera and expose them to other area performing arts venues right here in our own backyard. Our program is designed for students to learn from cast and crew members along with business and community leaders. Glimmerglass will help unite our children with live arts available to them right here in CNY. The opportunities are truly endless”.

Through the Festival’s outreach programs, and with the assistance of the Oneida County youth bureau over 200 students from across our region will attend two live performances of the 2023 Festival at no charge thanks to sponsor contributions. In addition to attending a live performance of the opera La Bohéme or Leonard Bernstein’s Candide students are provided with transportation and lunch. As part of the experience, they will also attend workshops with various cast members. “This experience is truly one of a kind and we are honored to bring it to our students through our Youth Ambassador Program” said Danielle Padula, Executive Director of Broadway Utica. “We are always looking for ways to expand our programming outside of the school year… Broadway Utica is happy to announce that the Youth Ambassador program is now running 12 months. Our program currently serves 30+ juniors and seniors in local high schools. We are extremely grateful for the support of this partnership and making this available. This is an incredible opportunity, and we look forward to many more years of growth with Glimmerglass.”

Students attend Broadway Utica shows at The Stanley Theatre along with volunteering in their community and more. The Glimmerglass Festival is a nonprofit company that attracts an international audience to the scenic Cooperstown, NY area, where the talent of singers, directors, designers and staff from around the world converges in the Alice Busch Opera Theater to produce world-class opera and music theater. “I am so proud to have facilitated this partnership between Broadway Utica and The Glimmerglass Festival,” shared Hon. Joan E. Shkane (ret.), longtime Glimmerglass volunteer and supporter. “Both organizations have a commitment to enhancing life in Central New York and to investing in the future of live performance through education and outreach. This partnership is a perfect example of this dedication and will introduce youth in our community to a beautiful art form and exceptional organization.”
