Giving Back Through the Power of Theater with Beyond The Stage
At Broadway Theatre League of Utica, the magic of Broadway doesn’t stop at the curtain call. Through our Beyond the Stage program, we partner with local nonprofits to raise awareness, collect donations, and support vital causes — all with the help of our incredible community and ticket holders. Whether it’s collecting canned goods, raising funds, or spotlighting missions that matter, Beyond the Stage helps turn live theater into lasting impact.
Launched in 2020, Beyond the Stage is a one-of-a-kind community give-back program. This initiative is designed to support local nonprofits by raising awareness, collecting donations, and engaging theatre audiences in meaningful causes. Each partnership is thoughtfully connected to the message of the Broadway show being presented, creating a powerful link between storytelling and real-world impact. With the help of our loyal ticket holders and community supporters, Beyond the Stage turns every performance into an opportunity to uplift and give back to those who need it most.
Past Beyond The Stage Collaborations Include:
- STOMP Out Hunger: Collected non-perishable food items for Rome Rescue Mission during the production of STOMP
- Spring Farm CARES: Gathered supplies during the 2020 run of CATS
- The Q Center: Raised awareness and support for LGBTQ+ youth during the performance of RENT
- Empowered Pathways: Collected workforce essentials for women entering the job market during SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical
- The Neighborhood Center: Spotlight on the Neighborhood Center’s Mobile Crisis Assessment Team - Raised Awareness for the Mobile Crisis Assessment Team, a program run through the Neighborhood Center. Shared the organization’s mission, purpose, and the critical work they do in crisis intervention, mental health support, and community outreach at the performance of Dear Evan Hansen.

Stuff The Bus: Our Youth Ambassador Program (YAP) joined forces to collect toys for the annual Stuff the Bus campaign. We collected donations in front of the theater during the performance of Elf The Musical, helping local children in need have a joyful holiday season.

ARC Herkimer: Arc Herkimer joined Broadway Utica during Mrs. Doubtfire, The Musical. Employees from The Arc spoke to our Youth Ambassadors prior to the start of the show to inform them of what Arc Herkimer offers to our community and how they can get involved. They also had a table of informational items about Arc Herkimer, spoke to patrons about inclusion and accessibility, building community and much more. We were delighted to have Arc Herkimer join us and they even had some individuals hand out playbills!
