Youth Ambassadors participate in an Intergenerational Spring Cleanup with Oneida County
This past weekend, April 12th and 13th, Oneida County held its annual Intergenerational Spring Cleanup — a county-wide initiative that paired youth groups with local senior citizens for a few hours of outdoor service and support.
Broadway Utica’s Youth Ambassadors joined the effort on Sunday, with seven students volunteering alongside program director Kristen Matteson. Together, they cleaned up four yards for senior residents, taking on tasks like raking, sweeping, and clearing light debris.
“These students really impressed me,” said Kristen Matteson, Program Director at Broadway Utica. “It was a Sunday morning. They had rehearsals and work later that day. But they showed up, ready to go, and gave it everything they had. Their energy even pulled me through. It’s moments like this that remind me why this program is so special.”
The goal of the cleanup wasn’t just to clear lawns — it was to give young people the chance to step up, lend a hand, and take pride in their community. And thanks to the leadership of County Executive Anthony Picente and the coordination efforts of Kevin Green, groups from across the county had the opportunity to do just that throughout the weekend.
We’re incredibly proud of our Youth Ambassadors for being part of this effort — for showing up, working hard, and proving that even a few hours on a Sunday morning can make a real difference.
